crumbles apart
along with bone

although we try to stay the same
we'll shrink and grow

a day will come
when all these fragments of memory that we've gathered over the years
will dissipate into air

but my only wish is to die without enemies

You once believed in every form of illusion that could possibly be
from magic beans to morphing into new beings
but time took its toll on imagination and soul
Now you're old and are slowly forgetting everything you were told
and you can't even stare into a child's eye
without feeling guilt overtake you as if you committed a crime.
it's just the cycle of life
they told you in school
as carnivores chewed away at balls of skin and hooves
on the projector screen...crackling in the black
while whispers and laughter covered the classroom in a mask
of insecurity burning its diagrams into baby gray brains
that never accepted the past.


we've all grown fast
and grown apart
as life has flashed by like a spark

10 years ago
we would have guessed
that changes would be for the best
but now

(nostalgia eats away at us gnawing at every vital organ making us fiend a comeback or a re-run)

To the Golden Gate jumpers
to romantics writing dead poetry
to the nostalgic inventors designing their time machines

to the my pet monsters
hiding in closets and under bed spreads
waiting for a time when they'll see the light of day again

surgery never quite hides age
and hair dye never quite hides grays
like it claims

God no longer speaks in your tongue
like he used to when you were young
what a
shame.


So will we ever come to terms with the fact that we're just
herds of animals
feasting on other smaller animals
eating each other
we're cannibals
that are laughing at one another's follies
laughing at people falling
like some god awful physical comedy

is it the ominous that puts in straight lines?
is it fear for our lives
that makes us not want to waste time
and stay kind
for the seconds we have on this planet
god damnit
the fact is
that we'll never truly understand it
