Our dog Rumba passed away close to Halloween in the year 2000. We had "inherited" Rumba from a family friend in Berkeley California who had originally found her in a Whole Foods parking lot. He gave her to us when I was around 10 or 11 years old and she died when I was 19. It affected me so much to lose this childhood friend who was so close and so loved. She was there throughout the vital years of my development into adulthood. Her death is part of the reason I've been a vegetarian for 13 years. Around 2003 I made this beat with some samples from the experimental folk musician Moondog. The word dog just triggered memories and I wrote this simple little tune.

Sometimes you come across an artist that is compelled to do what they do. I appreciate the musicality and the arrangement and the artistry of the songs.
